How to Play

Play Dennis & Gnasher Unleashed The Great Beano Cake Off. The Great Beano Cake Off is a food fighting game where you control Dennis, who must hit waves of oncoming pastries with flour balls before they their way across the screen. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

  • Starting the Game
    • Starting vs erasing data
      • If it is your first time playing the game click the purple checkered box with a white triangle in it at the bottom of the screen to start the game.
      • If you have already played the game before there will be two buttons at the bottom of the screen. Clicking the button with one triangle on it erases your gameplay data, while clicking the one with two triangles on it sends you to the level select screen.
      • Each of the 10 levels is only unlocked after you have beat prior levels.
        • Your web browser automatically stores your beat levels and level rating data.
        • You can go back and replay previously beat levels if you did not score as highly as you would like to in them. If you replay a level and score lower that lower score may replace your old score on the overview screen (e.g. replacing 2 stars with 1).
          • The welcome screen also contains a sound control button in the upper right corner.
          • Game Controls
            • Desktop
              • Use the mouse left click button to fire balls at the oncoming pastries.
                • Mobile
                  • Tap the screen to use your finger like a mouse.
                  • The upper right corner of the game has buttons to control sound, pause the game, or exit the game.
                  • Game Play Strategy
                    • Speed vs Accuracy
                      • In this game speed is far more important than accuracy.
                      • Pastries have a health bar to their right which shows after you hit them.
                        • Early in the game most pastries only take a single hit to kill, whereas later in the game some can take multiple shots to kill.
                        • The final level contains the all powerful gingerbread man, who you must hit around 20 times to kill. The gingerbread man is worth 1,000 points. The level does not end when you kill the gingerbread man – you still have to defeat any remaining enemies.
                        • Generally you want to aim for the pastries which are either closest to you or moving the quickest across the screen so that your shots land faster and you hit the enemies that are most likely to make it to the end of the screen.
                        • Hitting People
                          • You lose 100 points if you hit a person, however it is almost impossible not to while still being able to hit all the pastries as if the person walks through the line of fire they will get hit, even if you were aiming far beyond them.
                          • The only time it is easy to avoid hitting a person is if they run at the bottom of the screen and have a bit of distance between them and pastries running across the screen.
                          • If you try to avoid hitting a person and they are not running at the very bottom of the screen you will likely end up eventually hitting them anyhow and/or allowing multiple pastries offscreen.
                          • Even if you hit all the people crossing the screen you can still get a 3-star level rating on each level provided you also take out all the pastries.
                          • Power Ups
                            • Some of the pastries you hit will drop power ups including a diamond, a money bag, a clock, and a flower.
                              • The diamond and money bag score you more points, though are otherwise fairly useless.
                              • The clock temporarily slows down the speed of all enemies on the screen for 15 seconds.
                              • The flower gives you 15 super shots of a chocolate bar that kill most enemies in a single shot (though a few enemies take 2 shots & the end boss still takes many).
                              • To collect a power up you must hit it with a flower ball.
                              • Collecting the clock and flower power ups in the last few levels is vital to be able to keep up with the pace of the game.
                              • Health
                                • At the bottom of the screen there are 5 red hearts. Any pastry which makes it to the left edge of the screen takes away a heart container.
                                • On some levels – particularly on ones you have died on in the past – you may only start with a couple full heart containers. Beating the prior level with full health can help you enter the level with full health.
                                • If you die on a level you can replay an unlimited number of times.
                                • Target Audience
                                  • This game is fun for Dennis & Gnasher Unleashed fans of all ages.
                                    • The required click speed might be a bit quick for younger children with barely developed motor skills or older people with slow reflexes.
                                    • There are no adult themes in this game.
